Raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kaitlin Butts grew up surrounded by gospel hymns, country ballads, and old-school rock — the kind of music that gets passed down at family gatherings and played loud at roadside bars.
Drawn to country music in her teens through Miranda Lambert, she started writing her own material while taking guitar lessons. She went on to study at the Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma, where she found her voice between indie rock and classic honky tonk.
Since her 2015 debut Same Hell, Different Devil, Kaitlin has built a reputation as one of country's most uncompromising storytellers — a high, keening voice with a knack for classic country tropes and a rebellious spirit that refuses to be tamed.
Her 2024 album Roadrunner! — a reimagining of the Oklahoma! musical — is her most ambitious work yet, featuring country legend Vince Gill and recorded with A-list musicians who've played with Sturgill Simpson, Kacey Musgraves, and Miranda Lambert.
